The Manitoba Association of School Trustees
&
The Manitoba School Boards Association

In 1990, the Manitoba Association of School Trustees changed its name to the Manitoba School Boards Association.

Interestingly, the name change wasn't codified in legislation until 2010.

The name change hints at how the role of the trustee was changed. In my opinion, it led to the silencing of trustee voices.

How are voters to know who their trustees are and what values or ideas they stand for if they are not permitted to speak publicly outside of the board room? If citizens could at least examine the voting patterns of a trustee, it would be helpful.

Both the City of Winnipeg and the Parliament of Canada allow for citizens to examine voting records.

The SJASD should adopt the principle of open voting records.
